Miss Clarity Restaurant

Miss Clarity RestaurantMiss Clarity Restaurant, In 1981 a disease no one had even heard of was first recognized, it was named AIDS. Thirty years later statistics now report a whopping seventy million people are infected by the virus. The theme of this year’s World Aids Day is ‘Getting To Zero’ focusing on: Zero new HIV infections. Zero discrimination. Zero AIDS-related deaths. Today on World AIDS Day we take a look at a few celebrities who took advantage of their stardom to help spread awareness and raise funds towards fighting this disease. One of Bono’s many humanitarian efforts has been raising awareness about AIDS particularly in Africa where he set up the organization DATA (Debt, AIDS, Trade, Africa). He also founded the extremely successful ONE Campaign which aims as increasing government funding for various international aid programs including AIDS. He also founded Product Red with Bobby Shriver which aims at raising money for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria. At a time when there was no clarity on what AIDS was all about Elizabeth Taylor was one of the first celebrities to come forth and raise money towards research. She helped raise over $270 million throughout the years and founded the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation (ETAF) in 1993 which provided support services to those suffering from AIDS.NBA star Magic Johnson was at the peak of his basketball career when he announced his retirement from the game after he was diagnosed HIV positive. He has since dedicated his life towards AIDS awareness and raising funds for research of the cause through the Magic Johnson Foundation. He has served as UN Messenger of peace, was the main speaker for the UN World Aids conference in 1999 and joined the National Commission of Aids for a short period. After the death of his friends Freddie Mercury & Ryan White, Elton John began associating with charities dedicated to AIDS awareness until he founded his own organization the Elton John AIDS Foundation. He founded the charity not only to support those who were suffering from the disease but also to eliminate the prejudice against them. Every year John hosts a ‘White Tie & Tiara Ball’ to raise money for the organization, in 2007 he raised £3.5 million in one night!Alicia Keys co-founded the organization Keep a Child Alive which provides medicine to families with HIV/AIDS. In honour of World AIDS day in 2005 she collaborated with Bono to sing a cover of the Peter Gabriel/Kate Bush song Don’t Give Up.

Of course celebrities aren’t the only ones doing their bit to work against AIDS, millions of people worldwide dedicate their time and energy towards the cause. Share your thoughts on how you believe we can fight AIDS.

Bhanwari Case: Former Minister Maderna Arrested

Bhanwari Case: Former Minister Maderna ArrestedWorld News In a major breakthrough in the Bhanwari Devi missing case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday arrested former Rajasthan minister Mahipal Maderna, who is the main accused in the case. Co-accused Bishnoi was also arrested alongside Maderna. Bishnot is the brother of MLA Malkhan Singh, another suspect in the case.
Both Maderna and Bishnoi were arrested after being quizzed by the CBI in its Jodhpur office along with Bhanwari’s husband Amarchand. The investigating agency also recorded their statement in light of the new evidence, which it has collected.

Bhanwari case: Former minister Maderna arrested
Bhanwari, posted as auxiliary nurse and midwife at a sub-centre in Jaliwada village, around 120 kms from Jodhpur, went missing on September 1 and Maderna is accused of having a role in her disappearance.

Maderna and Bishnoi have been charged with abduction and intent to kill by the CBI. With these two arrest, the total number of arrested in the case has reached to five.

Maderna had earlier accepted before the CBI that he had a relationship with the missing nurse but denied any role in her going missing.

It should be noted that CBI has not yet declared Bhanwari Devi as dead because her body has not been found.

Meanwhile, the arrest of Maderna is being considered as huge embarrassment for the Ashok Gehlot government, which is already facing a lot of flak since the time, this case came into limelight.

Earlier in the day, the CBI filed chargesheet against four people in connection with the alleged kidnapping and murder of Rajasthan nurse Bhanwari Devi.

Bhanwari case: Former minister Maderna arrested
Those who have been booked are Sohanlal, Sahi Ram Bishnoi, Shahabuddin and Baldev for their role in the kidnapping of the nurse and her possible murder.

The chargesheet was filed hours after forensic experts of the probe agency found credible evidence from some lime-klins from Bilara and Pipara areas of the state.

The CBI claimed of founding important evidence – blood, hair, cloth and locket – from a Bolero belonging to Shahbuddin – having links with sacked Rajasthan minister Mahipal Maderana. Both are accused in the case.

The investigating agency also recorded the statement of labourers working at the lime-klins in connection with Bhanwari Devi’s alleged kidnapping and murder.

In view of the fresh evidence, the CBI is suspecting that the nurse was murdered and her body disposed off in the line klins.

Forensic experts are trying to match the samples collected from the area with those of Bhanwari’s relatives to verify and ascertain if she was killed and her body in the lime klins.

Home Birth Triples the Risk To Babies, Study

Home birth triples the risk to babies, study Home Birth Triples the Risk To Babies, Study, According to a new research, home births by first time mothers increase the risk to babies by as much as three times. The researchers found that first-time mothers, who decided to give birth at home the are three times more likely to have a outcomes for babies like death or brain damage. The research was conducted by researchers from the from Oxford University and was reported in the British Medical Journal.

The study looked at 65,000 births and found that babies whose mothers were delivering their first child and chose to give birth at home were 2.8 times more likely to suffer serious problems than those born in medical facilities.

The problems include stillbirth after the start of labour, the baby dying within the first week of birth, brain injury, fractures to the upper arm or shoulder during birth, and faeces in the lung. However, the researches say that the overall serious complications were low and the women in the UK should be allowed to decide where they want to give birth.

Researchers found that serious adverse outcomes occurred 3.5 times for every 1,000 babies whose births were planned in an obstetric unit. However, the researchers found that this figure was 9.5 per 1,000 babies if the first-time mother chooses a home birth. They also pointed out that there was not increase in risk for babies if the birth was planned at units led by midwives.

Trapped in His Own Body for 23 Years

Trapped in His Own Body for 23 YearsThe Editor Of Sri Lanka Trapped In His Office For The Last Five Years, This is not only dedicated to his work that led the newspaper publisher MV Kaanamyl-Nathan not to leave his post for five years and a half. In spring 2006, armed men broke into the building and sprayed automatic fire that killed two workers and bullet holes in the walls and tables in the meeting room, still to this day.

Since then, two police officers has been prescribed for permanent duty outside the building, and Mr. Kaanamylnathan and his wife have left a three-bedroom home in town and moved into a small space near the editorial office. “I’m not going. The only exception is to go see a doctor, a cardiologist every three months,” said Kaanamylnathan. “The fact that I need to make special arrangements.trapped in his own body for 23 years

The drama of Mr. Kaanamylnathan and his newspaper Uthayan, (Rising Sun in Tamil), in which six people were killed in the last ten years, and many others, assaulted, threatened and accidents, which continue today, is a window on the scary world of journalism in Sri Lanka.

Activists say journalists and media workers here are among the most vulnerable in the world, at least 14 were killed in recent years and many more forced into exile. Several others are missing. Among the most famous cases was that Lasantha Wickramatunga, editor of the Sunday Leader often critical, who was assassinated in January 2009. Nobody has been charged with murder.

A driver was killed a few months later, and a talented journalist – recruited as senior correspondents refused to come to the office more – was shot and died the following year on the way to work. More recently, the editor of news paper Gnanasundaram Kuganathan, severely beaten by two men armed with iron bars, when he left office in July.

While it insists on its news coverage is impartial, it does not hide the fact that the publication supports the cause of Tamil nationalism. Green Bean Casserole

Green Bean CasseroleGreen Bean Casserole, I don’t think I’ve ever had a Thanksgiving dinner without Green Bean Casserole.  Now I may or may not be the person that eats all the fried onions off the casserole before dinner even starts.  I also might be the person who picks the pecans off the pie.  But getting back on track, this green bean casserole is delicious and you won’t find any cans of unhealthy soup in this recipe.  I hope you enjoy this Thanksgiving staple as much as my family does.  Enjoy!

~Sarah

Ingredients:

* 8 cups cooked cut green beans
* 2 1/2 cups Cream of Mushroom Soup
* 20-25 Onion Rings (Amount will depend on the size of the rings you use.  I used smaller rings for this recipe and ended up needing just under 30 rings.)

Preparation:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Mix green beans and soup together in a 3 quart casserole dish.
3. Place in the oven for 20 minutes.  Remove from oven and top with onion rings.  Place back in the oven for an additional 5 minutes.

Mcdonalds Curry Sauce

Mcdonalds Curry Sauce

Mcdonalds Curry Sauce

Mcdonalds Curry Sauce It’s the end of the world as we know it. All over the island, Singaporeans are devastated to find out that McDonald’s has stopped serving curry sauce Mcdonalds Curry Sauce. Mcdonalds Curry Sauce The news first broke on Hardwarezone at 11pm yesterday, when a forumer visited a McDonald’s outlet, only to be told by the staff that they’ve run out of the unique, sweet-tasting curry sauce that has become a favorite for Singaporeans of all generations Mcdonalds Curry Sauce.

According to our editor Belmont Lay, the curry sauce had already run out since early Saturday morning (Nov 12th). He found out while visiting the fast food joint to fulfill his lust for cheeseburgers.

“It felt as if the world lost a shade of brown,” he said.

What is unclear though is whether McDonald’s has decided to stop serving the sauce in Singapore forever, as what some netizens are alleging, or whether this is a temporary situation.

When I headed down to the nearest McDonald’s outlet at midnight to order my fries, I was told that the curry sauce is out of stock. My jaws dropped, and I couldn’t believe it.

When I probed further, the counter girl told me there was probably some problem with the supply side — though she may not be sure herself.

I literally bawled my heart out.

On Twitter, the topic is already trending, with the #RIPCURRYSAUCE hashtag becoming popular in the last few hours.

Pleas are already coming in for the fast food brand to bring back the sauce. Some have even threatened to boycott the restaurant.

“NOT GOING TO VISIT MACS, UNLESS THEY BRING BACK MY CURRY SAUCE?” said SHINee_kisskiss

“It’s more saddening than the death of Steve Jobs,” lamented Goh Yi Fan.

YouTube star Dee Kosh was particularly vocal, going into an outburst on Twitter about the death of the thick, orangey sauce.

“Its all about the curry curry curry curry – we all need our curry curry curry curry – New single! Jessie J -”Curry Sauce,” he sang at one point on Twitter.

“Everyone should just call and order nuggets now — then ask for curry — then when they say don’t have – just scream,” he suggested a few minutes before.

Some are even using this devastating piece of news to poke fun at the incident where an Indian family was told to stop cooking their curry because a family from China couldn’t stand the smell.

If it’s true that McDonald’s has decided to stop serving its curry sauce, then it would indeed be a tragic day for Singaporeans.

Next Door Deli

Dad S Shepherd S PieNext Door Deli, My colleagues have been raving about Next Door Deli (NDD), so we trooped there for lunch today. NDD is literally next door to the famous Pine Garden bakery, and owned by the same people too.Expect local fare like fried mee siam and chicken curry, as well as Western favourites like fish and chips. For just-got-paid days, you can try the Angus beef steak for the princely sum of $38. Ordering is simple; you start from the left of the entrance where you choose a drink. There’s coffee, tea, passionfruit tea and even Erdinger if you like your tipple with deli food. Then you move to the next station to pick your sides and desserts, then look up to choose your main course and finally, pay at the counter. It’s all very nicely signposted, although your first instinct would probably be to stare at the big menu board (Step 3) and not notice Step 1  in the corner.

On to the food…What I had: the chicken curry with rice and pickled veg.Wok-fried mee siam.Fish and chips. My colleague S said it was only alright.I’m an eat-to-live person and am easily pleased, but my colleagues have finer taste buds so if they say something is good, it usually is. I was told that the fried mee siam was nice, but by the time it was my turn to order, they had run out, so I ordered the chicken curry instead. I liked it. The curry was flavourful and not too hot, and the chicken was very very tender. My only grouse was that there were too many potato chunks and not enough chicken. The serving is also rather small for $6.80 but I supposed having the word “deli” in the name means bumping up the prices a little. And serving $38 steaks.

All in all, I thought it was a pleasant visit. I liked the decor of the place but forgot to take a picture. I’ll leave you to discover this charming little joint for yourself. After you’re done eating, remember to pop next door to Pine Garden and buy cake for a second round of dessert.

Tian Tian Chicken Rice

Tian Tian Chicken RiceI have been working at Singapore for almost three months now, and yet there’s not any blog posts on Singapore’s Chicken Rice. The reason is really simple, because most of the Chicken Rice I had here, whether Hainanese or not, were above average tasting at best – not really blog worthy. That was until I tried Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice at Maxwell Food Centre. For those who know Tian Tian, most probably you also know that it was visited by Anthony Bourdain before. Who’s Anthony Bourdain? Well he’s a well-respected chef from America who once tried Tian Tian’s Hainanese Chicken Rice and was very impressed with it. “Chicken Rice is so fragrant and delicious that it can be eaten on its own” – those were the words used by Anthony Bourdain to describe Tian Tian’s Chicken Rice. Thanks to his praise, Tian Tian is now one of the most patronized Chicken Rice in Singapore. And check out the other awards won by Tian Tian too. Knowing there’d be a long queue if I went during lunch hours, I chose to go at a rather odd time at 3:30pm. Still, I had to queue for 10 minutes before I got served. I had a large portion of Chicken Rice with drumstick and a wing added @ $5. I felt the price was reasonable and glad that they didn’t take opportunity on the fame they enjoy to charge more expensively.

First thing I noticed was each rice grain was cooked so separately. This is something you can hardly find in Malaysia, but very common in Singapore because of the higher grade of rice grains they use. Ours tend to be lumpy, sticky and sometimes mushy.
And true to Anthony Bourdain’s words, Tian Tian’s Chicken Rice is indeed very delicious and flavorful that it can be enjoyed even on its own. The rice’s firm texture played an important role too, giving it a nice biting sensation. Seriously, I did not expect rice could taste so good.
