Aishwarya Rai Welcomes Baby Girl 2011, Aishwarya Rai welcomed her first child with husband Abhishek Bachchan earlier this week. Did the first couple of Bollywood actually ban media from covering the birth?
Talk about winning the genetic lottery. Gorgeous Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai gave birth to her first child — a daughter — on Tuesday, her husband confirmed on Twitter.

“Thank you all for your prayers and good wishes. Both Aishwarya and the baby are doing great and taking some much needed rest…” Abhishek Bachchan tweeted. “And I’m trying my level best to get rid of this caffeine high and get some sleep too. Don’t think it’ll work. TOO EXCITED!!!!”

This is the first child for Rai and Bachchan. The former Miss World and fellow Bollywood actor have been married for four years. The first photos of their child — and the baby’s name — are coming soon, promises grandfather Amitabh Bachchan.

“As I travel back from the hospital I need to thank the media for keeping their word of not intruding [on] our privacy. Deeply obliged!” the proud grandpa tweeted. “We will give time to both electronic and print media .. PR will be setting up .. Have been up for more than 24 hours .. Need rest.”

India’s media were reportedly barred from covering the birth of Bollywood’s First Baby — under strict direction from the couple. The 10-point bulletin advised reporters that they couldn’t cover the birth or camp out outside the hospital.

This super equipped hospital’s childbirth ward has been specially chosen for the Bachchan bahu Aishwarya.While Aishwarya’s due date falls in the second week of November, buzz has it that Bachchan family wants Aishwarya to deliver the baby on 11/11/11, the date, month and year which come once in a hundred years. Interestingly, Amitabh Bachchan celebrates his birthday on 11th October.

Actors Aishwarya Rai like Saira Banu, Asha Parekh and Dimple Kapadia, as well as designers like Neeta Lulla and Shaina NC made a beeline at the Bachchan household Jalsa here Tuesday for the grand baby shower of Aishwarya Rai. The Bandra house was decorated with flowers, and was packed with people in the afternoon.

Aishwarya is said to have worn an orange-coloured Indian ensemble for the occasion. If guests are to be believed, she looked ethereal, with the glow of any mother-to-be on her face. The actress, married to Abhishek Bachchan, is eight months pregnant.

“Aishwarya was looking like a `chand ka tukda`. She was looking beautiful. We wish Abhishek and Aishwarya all the best,” Saira Banu, who gifted Aishwarya a gold coin, told a news channel.

Choreographer Saroj Khan, who has made Aishwarya dance on songs like “Nimbooda”, “Taal se taal mila” and “Barso re”, shared some scenes from the Bachchan household.

“I have never seen so many celebrity women together. All the women went up to Aishwarya and blessed her. Jayaji received each guest personally and was very warm. Even her daughter, Shweta, gave personal attention to everyone. There were a lot of songs and celebration,” said Khan.

The veteran choreographer wasn`t just praises for Aishwarya alone, but also for Abhishek, who wore a white sherwani style kurta.

“Aishwarya looked pretty in orange. Her face had such a glow. She was decorated with mogra flowers. Even Abhishek looked extremely happy. God bless them both and may the child have a long life,” she added.

Make-up artist Mickey Contractor helped Aishwarya get ready for the special day.

Other guests included Urmila Matondkar, Twinkle Khanna, Sonali Bendre, Manyata Dutt, Ritu Nanda, Neetu Kapoor, Neelam Kothari, Mana Shetty, Vaibhavi Merchant, Poonam Sinha, designer duo Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla and Karan Johar, among others.

Aishwarya`s father-in-law, megastar Amitabh Bachchan, had revealed the news of her pregnancy through his Twitter account in June. The baby is due mid-November.
